Make The Yuletime Gay

The holiday season is upon us, and, for many, nothing means “Holidays” more than a Hallmark, Lifetime or other network Christmas movie. But hold on to your elf caps, this year we can celebrate the yule AND see a bit of our own stories while we are at it!

This year a flurry of LGBTQ-inclusive Christmas movies is being delivered up for our viewing pleasure. Of course, there will still be the familiar plots: kid leaves their hometown and goes to the big city; crisis strikes at home (i.e., the ranch is facing foreclosure); city slicker reluctantly returns home to help and then finds themselves sparking a new romance or rekindling an old flame. Pretty familiar, so far, but what if the new romance is between city-girl-comes-home Haley and down-to-earth ranch hand Kate? That’s right: a lesbian Christmas movie: ‘Christmas at the Ranch’, from Tello Films, a streaming network dedicated to lesbian content, is available on YouTube: Christmas at The Ranch (Official Trailer) – YouTube.

Here are some other options to help make your “Yuletide gay”:

‘Single All the Way’, Netflix Make the Yuletide gay with these new LGBTQ Christmas movies (nbcnews.com)

Netflix’s first gay holiday film, ‘Single All the Way’ with Tony-winning director Michael Mayer at the helm, features Michael Urie, Philemon Chambers, Kathy Najimy, Luke Macfarlane and Jennifer Coolidge. A familiar plot (meddling parents trying to find their son the perfect mate) but with a gay twist, this film is getting a lot of media attention and, of course, Kathy and Jennifer make it worth watching!

‘The Bitch Whole Stole Christmas’, VH1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goEB-GuKDPI

RuPaul’s first holiday movie features RuPaul, Krysta Rodriguez, Michelle Visage, Ross Mathews, Andy Ridings, Kim Petras, Charo and close to a dozen “Drag Race” alumni, including Ginger Minj, Peppermint, Gottmik, and Kylie Sonique Love. The plot focuses on RuPaul (a fashion editor) sending journalist Krysta Rodriquez to a small town obsessed with Christmas, where she finds everything other than holiday spirit.

‘The Jenkins Family Christmas’, BET+ Make the Yuletide gay with these new LGBTQ Christmas movies (nbcnews.com)

Directed by Robin Givens and featuring Robert Gossett, Tammy Townsend, Regina Taylor, Kim Coles, Anthony Chatmon II, and Derek Chadwick, ‘The Jenkins Family Christmas’ includes as part of its story line the arrival of a gay family member and his boyfriend who are expecting to be included in the celebration.

‘Under the Christmas Tree’, Lifetime Under the Christmas Tree | Lifetime (mylifetime.com)

Elise Bauman, Tattiawna Jones and Ricki Lake star in this lesbian-themed Christmas tale about searching for the perfect Christmas tree and falling in love while you’re at it.

‘The Christmas House 2: Deck Those Halls’, Hallmark Channel Preview – The Christmas House 2: Deck Those Halls (hallmarkchannel.com)

After Hallmark’s 2019 misstep of pulling an ad that showed a lesbian wedding, they have been making amends by incorporating same sex couples in their story lines. ‘The Christmas House 2; Deck Those Halls’ is a sequel to last year’s ‘Christmas House’ that introduced Jonathan Bennett and Brad Harder as the gay brother and brother-in-law of the Mitchell family. This year the gay and straight Mitchell brothers square off to see who can create the best Christmas House.

Of course, leave a little time to watch some of the older LGBTQ+ -friendly films, such as:

And there never has to be a reason to rewatch the classic ‘Auntie Mame’ with Rosalind Russell and
